Hero Cops (Handgag music video)

Growing up I was always fascinated by Police men (cops). I always admired the aura of power and authority they carried and how safe they made me feel. I suppose my interest with cops began when watching wrestling and seeing the Big Bossman on WWF TV. He would often humiliate lowly jobbers after defeating them by handcuffing them and beating them with his nightstick or applying a ball and chain to their ankle before dropping the heavy ball right on their stomach. As much as I was fixated with what he (and later other cops) did I always felt that there was something missing.

That thing was of course a nice, mouth silencing gag; the ultimate in control and authority. I suppose thinking rationally it does not make sense for a police offer to gag an arrestee. Often what the detainee says during their arrest is a key corner stone for their trial. The irony is that the captor is usually portrayed as the villain and the captive the hero or the victim. With police officers making arrests they got to reverse the roles. Suddenly the heroes were the ones restraining and man handling the bad guys with those beautiful, silver handcuffs. However I never stopped craving, longing even for these police offers to clamp their hand down over the arrestee's mouth and really lay the law down as they were carting him away. 

Imagine my amazement (and delight) when I discovered that not only does this happen in countries like Azerbaijan and Turkey but it also appears to be a common, encouraged practise! This discovery was like one of my life long fantasies coming to life. I began to amass all the video clips and photos that I could find and they were more satisfying than any thing I have seen in the last five years or so. The sad reality is that these clips show a catalogue of horrible abuse of human rights. However I found myself really starting to identify with these men and began cheering them on. You could almost say I started falling in love with them. They were every thing I hoped a police officer could (and should) be. As I watched these clips I kept finding myself thinking of these men as heroes and suddenly my creative juices started to flow. These men had given me one thing I had always longed for and I needed to pay tribute to them some how. Out of that desire this video was born.
